هو الذي جعل لكم الارض ذلولا فامشوا في مناكبها وكلوا من رزقه واليه النشور ١٥

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًۭا فَٱمْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ ١٥

هُوَ

ٱلَّذِي

جَعَلَ

لَكُمُ

ٱلۡأَرۡضَ

ذَلُولٗا

فَٱمۡشُواْ

فِي

مَنَاكِبِهَا

وَكُلُواْ

مِن

رِّزۡقِهِۦۖ

وَإِلَيۡهِ

ٱلنُّشُورُ

١٥

He is the One Who smoothed out the earth for you, so move about in its regions and eat from His provisions. And to Him is the resurrection ˹of all˺.

What is meant by "Walk in its (manākib)"?

Answer

Imām Ibn al-Jawzī (d. 597/1201) summarized the scholars' opinions in his book "Zād al-Masīr" as follows:

Its roads. [Al-ʿAwfī from Ibn ʿAbbās; Mujāhid]
Its mountains. [Ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Ibn ʿAbbās; Qatādah]\

Al-Zajjāj preferred this interpretation, stating: "The meaning is that He made travel through the earth easy for you; since it is possible even to traverse its mountains, that shows the extent of facilitation."

Its sides. [Muqātil, al-Farrāʾ, Abū ʿUbaydah]\

Ibn Qutaybah preferred this interpretation, stating: "A man’s mankibs are his two sides."
